Did you know that going 2 people going vegan for 1 day could save enough CO2 to keep 80 trees alive for a year!? Thanks to Tideford, I am now more aware of the impact of our food intake on the environment…and in the wake of the Iceland advert ban, this is a very prominent issue! I am sure you are thinking the same way I was….how can vegan food be interesting? How can vegan food be filling? How can vegan food save our trees? Head over to the Tideford website and get your hands on some of their food. You’ll be a convert. http://www.tidefordorganics.com/ethos/
Tideford are known in Devon for their award winning organic food and I was invited to try their soups, pesto and pasta sauce. To say the least I was very excited.
The soups are so perfect for this kind of weather. Imagine settling down in a big fluffy jumper under a blanket with a big bowl of soup and a crusty gluten free roll (tip: try Schar Ciabatta rolls heated up for 5 mins in the oven). A very hygge situation, I know. This is exactly how I taste tested my soups. I wish. I was at work but I am going to reserve time to do this. I tried two flavours: tomato and basil soup with red peppers and miso and Country Vegetable with rosemary and thyme. These soups are gluten free, dairy free, GM free, vegan, organic, low fat….the list of benefits is never ending but I can tell you that so was the flavour. I had half of the soup each day so the 2 soups lasted me 4 lunches and I can safely say that a hungry winter Antonia was very filled up and satisfied. My favourite was the basil and tomato. The miso really helped bulk it out which is usually a soup which doesn’t fill me right up. They stock the miso separately in many different flavours so if you are an avid soup maker I recommend adding some to your soup! I would definitely recommend these as a winter treat! The added bonus is that it is the UK’s first organic FODMAP friendly soup…., and for someone who has a few tummy issues every now and then this is ideal.
I tried out the basil pesto and the pasta sauce alongside Mamma Flora’s Gluten Free pasta (blog to follow) and OMG this is just the best. The pesto is perfect. The chickpeas and pine kernels diced into the pesto make it truly exquisite. A bold statement I know. Taste it is all I am saying. I also tried the basil and tomato pasta sauce which interestingly has a deliciously creamy flavour:the added coconut cream will do this. Secret ingredient alert!
I thoroughly recommend Tideford to all and I CAN NOT WAIT TO TRY THE CURRY SAUCES AND THE WINTER SOUPS. In fact I am going to locate stockists now.
