Being half Italian, I love a good olive. I am, however, particularly fussy and have to have the real deal. The taste of a fresh olive just brings me right back to helping my Nonno (Italian grandad) with "La Sera" (the allotment he had in the South of Italy). I used to lie under the olive trees and bask in the sun indulging in it's beautiful fruits. Ah, what fantastic memories.
I was, therefore, very excited to try out WestCountry Olives which was born out of "a desire to eat great tasting olives"* Westcountry Olives is a small family business which also runs southwest businesses: Orchardlea (chilled and frozen foods from small southwest businesses - fab fab place to pick up some delish cheese!) and Orchardlea Occassion Foods.
The olives are sourced from the Mediterranean (because why wouldn't you get the best) and marinated in house with locally sourced ingredients. In fact even the rapeseed oil used is grown and produced in Devon by Bell and Loxton.
Westcountry Olives kindly sent me 3 different flavours to try out.
Garlic and chilli definitely had to be my absolute fave! The flavours of this one were gorgeously partnered and I paired them with a little buffet of Orchardlea cheeses : recommend the chilli one for this!
The herbs in the classic blend really complimented the fresh natural flavour of the olives and it wasn't too overpowering.
The lemon and tarragon was simply divine. Enjoy with a glass of white of an evening with some Ella Fitzgerald I say. Perhaps in a bubble bath...getting carried away now, it's been a tough year, indulge yourself.
Their website is filled with some exciting and extravagant flavours, which quite frankly I cannot wait to try. On my wish list is the following:
Orange and Coriander - what a flavour. So interesting! Who would have thought?
Hot Chilli - this is one for my fiance! He loves a strong spicy flavour.
Nocellara - simply because these are my absolute fave!
These olives are THE best idea for a stocking filler (don't need to be chilled) and you are supporting independent, small and local by doing so! I really would recommend! In fact, this year we are only filling our stockings with local products which we can enjoy over the festive period.
You can mix and match flavours online or message them for a bespoke one! In fact, this weekend it's £8.99 for three packs! What a bargain!
