Beeswax wraps have been creating a buzz recently (yes, pun intended) and look at these beauts!
I was searching for a way to reduce my plastic and clingfilm use and found this gorgeous brand of beeswax wraps. I was drawn in by the stunning colours and patterns and loved all the designs. I found it very hard to pick which ones I wanted and these two gorgeous designs were gifted to me. I love a pop of colour in the kitchen and these fit in perfectly. These wraps are both incredibly beautiful and so blooming useful. What a combo! Not just a pretty face!
I love how every wrap pattern has a meaning. I think these will be my next purchase:
Symbolising determination, calm and good fortune.
Now plastic film really doesn’t give you all that….
They come in different sizes which is soooo perfect for lunches. Wrap fruit and veg up with the smaller ones and cover sandwiches with the big ones! Love prepping my lunches now. Yes I get excited about which colours to use!
My new favourite use is making a small envelope to store my herbs. My basil and parsley has been going a bit crazy on my windowsill so it’s quite nice to trim it down and store the herbs in the fridge ready for my next recipe.
I have also loved making little pots for my blueberries. I’ve found that keeping them in this way really does help them to last sooo much longer.
There are some fab tutorials on the website and Instagram – you should definitely check these out! If you have kids, it’s a fun task for them too!
The wraps are made from 100% cotton (fabrics made in HanaBee Creator’s native Japan), UK sourced beeswax, organic jojoba oil and pine resin. They are so clever! All you do is bend the wraps into the shape you want and they stick!
Yep, get origami ready.! I am not naturally creative but so far pretty proud of these creations…
The wraps come with a really useful Dos and Don’ts card to help them last longer. These babies can last up to 12 months with careful use! Think of all the plastic you’ve prevented from polluting the world, you environmental warrior you!
I spoke to the HanaBee Creator, to get some insight, tips and tricks and she was so lovely:
Why did you start the business?
“I started HanaBee because I totally fell in love with beeswax wraps! It changed my life. So I decided to make the world greener with beautiful fabrics from my native Japan, when my youngest son turned one.
When I had my children, I used plastic bags for baby snacks but used it so much that my family called me “Mrs plastic bags”. I knew something had to change, then I stumbled across beeswax wraps.
In Japan we have a word, “mottainai” which expresses the feeling of regret over wasting something. Beeswax wraps are amazing because nature has given us the solution to the man made problem of plastic film waste. Also using beeswax wraps reduce food waste as the food lasts for longer when you wrap it.
What’s your favourite design?
I only choose fabrics that I love so in a sense all my collections are my favourite! But the ones added this week, Sudare collection, is very kawaii (means pretty in Japanese) and I am using them at home already.
What’s your favourite way to use the wraps?
Packed lunches! You can use the large wraps for sandwiches, medium wraps for kids sandwiches, small wraps for cut veg and fruit and mini wraps for biscuits. When you start, unwrap the sandwich and the wrap becomes a lunch mat (useful for kids!). When you finish eating, you just need to fold them up. No need to carry a lunch box around! My 4 year old likes to do a bit of origami, folding the wraps to make pouches for fruit and snack for her lunch.
