These pies are insanely delicious. The mix of flavours in each one marries up so beautifully.
Focusing on the power of plants, Clive's is a Devon-based vegetarian bakery which makes scrumptious pies and tarts with fantastic organic ingredients, some of which are gluten free! All I can say is....taste sensation. Pies and tarts are made in small batches to ensure quality and you can definitely tell that so much thought goes into this!
These delicious pies can be found all over Devon and there is a cool little "pie finder" on the website to help you locate them - a bit like a fun scavenger hunt with pies instead of treasure. Well I'm up for that!
I really thought I would miss having meat in a pie but having tasted these I can hands-down say that these are my new favourite pies. I did not get FOMM (Fear of missing meat).
Here's what I thought of each one:
Let's start with my favourite, because that's how I like to eat (yes I eat the chicken first in a roast).
Tomato and Olive Tart
This is sensational. It is filled with all of my favourite things. Tomatoes, olives (kalamata of course), courgettes and bell peppers. The gluten free casing is the best I have ever tasted, it has a little bit of crunch to it too. So YUM.
Mexican Chilli Pie
This one was my fiancee's fave. He loved the contrast. Who would have thought that cocoa, lime and beans went so well together. Again the gluten free crust is insane. A crunchy lid with a soft base.
Aloo Gobi Pie
Stunning with a taste of Bangladesh. The saffron rice mixed with the spicy cauliflower is sooooo tasty and the hint of ginger and coconut tops it off so nicely. I really recommend that you enjoy this one with one mango chutney.
Lentil and Kale Tart
This one is perfect for a picnic. Rich with zesty flavours - lentils, kale, cranberrries. Pack a salad and some tomatoes (and perhaps some prosecco) to enjoy!
Bombay Curry Tart
This is like an onion bhaji in a beautiful gluten free casing. It has a great sweet potato twist. I had this one with some salad and mango chutney. So GOOOOD.
Chickpea Tagine
This is one I was (admittedly) a bit skeptical of but OMG delish. Chickpea, vegetables, mint and apricots. What a pairing! The apricots tasted so great in it.
Their full range is on their site here:
I am lucky enough to have a stockist right down the road!!!
