As a much needed post-work treat my boyfriend and I visited The Stable, on Thursday evening, located in the new Guildhall Dining Quarter. I’d already had a tip-off about its atmosphere filled with candles, small fairy lights and  great music – but for me it was all about trying out their choice of gluten free pizzas. It just so happened to be a band night, with the Neo Souls, which added to the folky atmosphere.

We had a gluten free pizza each and a mountain of olives. I had The Cathedral Clucker, a scrumptious pizza topped with free-range chicken, roasted red peppers, field mushrooms, our fresh tomato sauce and mozzarella. My boyfriend had the Porky Pancetta, resembling a fancy fiorentina with fresh tomato sauce, sweet white onion, grated mozzarella, Devon pancetta from Good Game of Topsham and topped with a free range egg.

I love the way that The Stable uses fresh local produce giving it such a fantastic edge to the pizza, complimenting it with delights from the region. A great aspect to the Stable is that all their food and drink is built around the location they’re in, with plenty of support for local businesses. The mozzarella was my favourite part – so creamy.

The gluten free base was amazing. By far one of the best I have tasted. My boyfriend (who loves his bread, pizza and is not one bit gluten free) also complimented it! It was crispy and thin just how I like it!

The Stable hand was happy to help explaining what was and wasn’t gluten free on the menu. All pizzas are gluten free with an added surcharge of £1.00 for a gluten free base. Trust me though it is worth paying that bit more than another pizza place.

I had a taste of quite a few of their local ciders – my favourite being a fantastic elderflower cider with a very aromatic taste. They had thousands of ciders to select from and I thoroughly recommend that you get a tasting board and try the lot!
