Last weekend I enjoyed the most amazing meal at Oddfellows and in line with my sustainable eating month I chose to go vegan as well as gluten free! I am still thinking about it now as I write this and want to go back very soon!!

Firstly I’d just like to say a little about how I love the vibe in this place. It is one of my favourite places to eat and drink in Exeter. Perfect for a cosy wine with a friend or a romantic dinner for two! The choice of music is always excellent and there is always a nostalgic film on in the corner too. Love it! The staff are always so friendly (especially this time – with me being so picky only eating the vegan and gluten free items and all!). Nothing is ever too much trouble for them and they took the time to tell me exactly what I was drinking and eating and where they had sourced it!

Drinks wise I had the vegan red wine (delicious and went down a treat!) and my partner had the Powderkeg beer which is both gluten free and vegan (he was my taste tester (didn’t complain!) as I am not a fan of any beer. He loved it and would definitely have it again even though he isn’t gluten free himself.

I ordered from the lunch menu (which is such good value for money! 2 courses are only £10) having the house humous and crudites for starters and the cannellini bean and pea stew with fries (instead of the bread) for mains. I love a good crudites starter with peppers and celery but the humous was out of this world. OMG amazing. You need to try this! The stew was really warming, healthy and filling. The cannellini beans were a dream. I must say I didn’t think that fries would go with the stew but they really complimented it…and also these are by far the best fries in Exeter (I have had them before with the moules and I was in love the second time too).

My partner ordered off the main menu but went vegan and gluten free too! He had the spiced cauliflower and almond soup with saffron oil and gluten free bread. Obviously I had to try it, it would be rude not to. It was so smooth and tasted amazing. I would never have thought of putting those ingredients together but it worked so well. I will definitely be getting this next time! For mains Alex had quinoa salad with edamame beans, pea, spring onion and avocado with lemon and basil dressing and rainbow radishes. He loved it – he’s a big fan of avocados. I tasted it and loved it too – it was surprisingly filling as he couldn’t manage to finish it…which is a rare occurrence!

So…whether you are thinking of going vegan to help the planet or you just fancy a healthy meal, Oddfellows is 100% the place for you. The lunch menu is great, the staff are fab and it is such a cosy and relaxing atmosphere.

Oddfelllows, it was a pleasure as always!
