Exeter Hubbox has a brand new look! Its in a shiny new location on Catherine Street: the former home of The Rum & Crab Shack  – love all the new decor, so hipster! And the food…lets just say I went in a size 10 and came out, er, not that! Just look at this slideshow!!!!

So first up we had Cauliflower Poppers in minted yogurt. OMG this was my favourite part of the meal. The batter (gluten free!!!!) really crisped up on the outside and gave way to a tender and spicy centre. The minted yogurt really complimented these little treats…which were surprisingly filling. I let my fiance share some, don’t worry.

For my mains I had the “smokey” burger – Slow n low smoked beef brisket, dirty onions (onions cooked in charcoal), Swiss cheese, mayo, French’s mustard & slaw. The gluten free version comes in a cornflour tortilla. I have to be honest, I wasn’t a massive fan of the wrap (bit out of place – especially when GF buns are always improving) but omg the beef brisket filling. MMM MMM MMMM. Mouthwatering.

For mains, my fiance had the gluten free battered fish and chips. I got real food envy…so obviously I tried it! The fish was so tender and white and the batter was fantastic!

Sides wise, we shared Skin-on fries topped with slow n low smoked pulled pork, BBQ sauce & slaw (absolutely love a bit of slaw) and Smokey BBQ beans mixed with the burnt ends of our smoked brisket & pork. Both, surprisingly, 100% gluten free!

Finishing it all off with a perfectly brewed flat white (coffee snob over here).

I know what you are thinking….how did you eat it all? Well. We did take some home but we were stuffed for the rest of the day – the portions are MEGA. Great value for money!

I thoroughly enjoyed eating out at Hubbox in its new re-vamped venue. One criticism? Swapping out the bun for a wrap for us gluten-freers didn’t quite work for me.

I can’t wait to go back for not only more food, but a drinks evening with the girls (I’ve heard they do DJ nights and great cocktails). BONUS.
