WOW.
Sensational.
Just writing this blog is making me hungry again!
Baked to Taste are a family based company in Honiton, Devon. They are a dedicated wheat and gluten free craft bakery!!
They kindly let me sample some of their goods and I can tell you now that I will be bulk ordering all of these goods again.
I first found out about them at a local market in St Thomas. A lady on one of the stalls had told me how fab they were when I happened to mention I was gluten free and I thought ooh I must check them out. I then saw that they were selling Gluten Free pastys in the cafe at Pennywell Farm and thought I wonder what make they are...Baked to Taste again but by the time I went back to the cafe to try them I was too late! So, I got in contact and they kindly sent me a bundle of goods to try.
I was soo excited when the package came, and they did not disappoint. It had been so long since I had tucked into a pasty or steak pie! I was buzzing.
The pastys and sausage rolls were fantastic - the pastry wasn't too crumbly (which is very hard for gluten free) and the filling was divine. My favourite though was the spinach roll. I don't even usually go for the vege option but I would choose this over a meat sausage roll every time now.
The quiche was a firm favourite - I enjoyed this at the allotment surrounded by my not yet ripe tomatoes. Again, the pastry was firm yet melt in the mouth and the centre beautiful.
But the pies....ohhhh the pies. The chicken, leek and bacon was so damn tasty. The pie had the perfect lid to it and the filling was just right - the leek complimenting the bacon and chicken soo well. The steak pie was also amazing. I hadn't realised that there were chestnut mushrooms too so that was a great suprise - they worked so well.
Now, onto the puddings. CAKE! My absolute favourite was the millionaire. The perfect ratio of caramel, chocolate and shortbread. Melt in the mouth. The lemon was so moist and the bakewell perfect.
I would fully recommend Baked to Taste. A bakery dedicated to gluten and wheat free - you always have that security - that alongside the best tasting treats!
