What do the English do in a crisis? Keep calm and carry on….with the help of tea! So let this Afternoon Tea with Duck and Bean Cafe lift your spirits just like it lifted mine! Or even better gift it to someone who needs it to keep a smile on their face.

I was lucky enough to receive this delightful box of treats on my doorstep this week. Duck and Bean have just started delivering to Exeter on Tuesdays and I snapped at the chance to get my hands on one of these. The parcel is left on the doorstep and was clearly marked GF (which I love – helps you feel more confident).

These boxes are filled with:

1 Round of sandwiches,

1 piece of cake.

1 Scone.

Clotted cream or jam.

It’s £12.50 for a box for one or £22 for a box for 2.

If you are gifting this, firstly you are ace!! and secondly, for an extra £1 they will hand write you a lovely little card.

So lets get cracking and try the goods.

It really is so beautifully presented and it immediately put a smile on my face from ear to ear. The flowers gave it such a beautiful touch and the stunning colours of the cake immediately caught my eye. As I am sure you will all be aware, there is a lack of choice in the market anyway when it comes to gluten free but at times like this, it is even harder to find food, especially something as decadent and luxurious as this! And who delivers gluten free?! Hardly anyone! I can literally count the places on one hand! So this is great!!!

So how did I enjoy mine? Outside in the garden with a cuppa and Pride and Prejudice. The only way to enjoy an afternoon tea, of course. I picked a lovely sunny day and this rest bite of sitting outside with great food, great company (yes books are like people) and a taste of the outside world, my problems lifted from my shoulders.

So first up, I tried the scone. This came with a mini Tiptree Strawberry jam and some fresh cream. Perfect.

This was quite frankly the best gluten free scone I have ever tasted. Usually they are dry and flaky. This was superb, and in all honesty I am probably going to order a box of scones, jam and cream to arrive every Tuesday for the next month…

A box of cream tea for 2 is £8.

Next up I tried the sandwich selection. Each box comes with sandwiches with a choice of 2 fillings: honey roast ham, mustard and tomato, egg mayo and cress, cucumber and cream cheese and coronation chicken. I love egg mayo and cress and cucumber and cream cheese so these were perfect for me. I did also try the coronation chicken and this was also a winner for me too. The bread was great and didn’t break up! So filling too.

Finally, for desert, I tried the cake. It was so beautifully decorated I hardly wanted to bite into it. It was lovely – so moist. The perfect carrot cake.

Look at it….I could just look at it all day long.

Thoroughly recommend Duck and Bean Cafe and their delivery service. They were so warm friendly and happy to cater to a gluten free diet.

It is so important that we support local at the moment and I definitely think this Cafe based in Tiverton deserves a big shout out! Thank you.
